Common Questions

What happens if I don't respond?

If you fail to respond within 20 days, the petitioner can request a default judgment. This means the court may grant everything they asked for without your input.

Can I dispute that I'm the father?

Yes. If you believe you're not the father, state this in your Answer and request DNA testing. The court will order testing before making any custody or support orders.

What if I want different custody/support terms?

If you want to request your own terms, you need a Counterpetition in addition to the Answer. See our Paternity Counterpetition service.
